In 1947 Andong College of Education was founded; from this beginning, Andong National University was born. Though located in a mid-sized city in the province, all associates of ANU have continuously worked hard for over 60 years to grow and develop this university. However, information and globalization revolutions have pushed this university into a spiral of necessary competition. Now, all universities are caught up in a struggle to find the right strategy to survive against one another.

Last May, in order to be globally competitive, ANU offered itself a new mission to become “The university with the highest level of education in Korea”. In order to succeed in our mission, a practical strategy was proposed to become “the university that best serves the students”. The meaning of ‘serve’ for ANU is to provide communication between the college and the student, to be considerate of the student, to help the student altruistically; these methods are ANU’s concentrated mode of operation. Therefore, ANU concentrates all efforts on educational performance and job placement. ANU aggressively attended not only the various government-sponsored human resource projects for business, but also developed many programs specifically tailored for education, research, and career advancement for our students.

In a timely announcement, it has been confirmed that the new provincial office is moving to the area of Andong and Yecheon. Therefore, Andong National University, being the only national university near the new provincial office, is in the process of developing a new vision and a new master plan to grow with this new opportunity. In the future, the expectation for Andong National University is to rise a step higher in the eyes of both the local and national government, and its role will also be extended.

One mind, one thought; all associates of Andong National University promise to work ever harder to fulfill this precious mission of our generation.
