Department of History

[Introduction of Department]

History is the foundation upon which all studies are based, from the fundamental to the complex. The objects for study are the processes and changes wrought by the endeavor of human beings in the general area of politics, economy, philosophy and culture in ancient Korea, East and West. The ultimate goal of the study is to “find yourself” by asking the questions; “how did I come to be here in this world” and “how did the world I live in now come into existence.” The role of history will be reinforced by the spread of information technology, globalization and localization of the 21st century. In order for history to become more widely understood by both the ordinary citizen as well as the world, it is important for local government website home pages to be more user friendly so that local history and culture can be more easily accessible and easier to understand. Also, to further understand the culture in which one lives, it is necessary to first acquire an elementary knowledge of it. To become professionals concentrating in the study of history, it is essential to have a general knowledge of history as a background for deeper studies.
